Picture this scene...
A mother walks through the door of the
Washington City Mission. She has a little boy with her and
is carrying some bags. It’s hard for her to be here. She has
worn out her welcome with family and friends. She has to
admit that she can’t make it by herself anymore and she
needs help. She feels humiliated and fearful.
She asks if we can take her in. She is
near tears and tired.
Now imagine that you are the one who
must tell her that the Mission is full. There is no room for
them, not even for one night. The woman’s shoulders sag. She
looks beat. Imagine looking into her eyes as she realizes
that she has nowhere to turn.
This is a true story, played out in the
lives of our staff and those who come to us for shelter
almost every day. In the months of April, May and June of
this year we have had to turn away 122 woman and 56
children.
We’ve lost touch with most of these
little families. They could be anywhere, doing what they must
to survive.
This is hard for us to bear!
And we see more women and children
coming to us. That’s why our Board of Directors just decided
to build a larger facility for women and children on our
property on West Wheeling Street. We want all who turn to us
in their hour of need to have the opportunity to let our
great God restore their dignity. We want to help each one
see that they can trust Him to meet their every need.
Would you help us open our doors wider
so that more can come in?
The need to care for women and children
is great today. Thank you for being part of the solution for
hurting people in our community.
May God bless you and keep you.
